Culture Kids For Change, "21" screening pictures

Mamie has been out and about the last couple of days. Yesterday, she attended the Culture
Kids For Change Cocktail Party at Paris Commone benefit with the United Nations
Association Hero Campaign in New York City.
And on March 26, she was spotted at a screening for "21", hosted by the Cinema Society and
Calvin Klein Jeans. All new pictures can be found in the Image Library. | 
"Stop Loss" review

With "Stop Loss" being released in US theaters today, the Los Angeles Times has posted a
very insightful review on the film. Four thousand Americans and counting have died in
Iraq, and the litany of unsuccessful films about that part of the world - "The Situation,"
"Redacted," "Rendition," "The Kingdom," "In The Valley of Elah" among others - is growing
as well. Do not add “Stop-Loss” to that list. "Stop-Loss" is a film that does it right.
The story of a young American soldier played by Ryan Phillippe who resists an order to
return to Iraq, "Stop-Loss" covers some of the same territory as those other features.
The difference here is a quality of propulsive emotional intensity that pushes us over
rough spots as it drives us insistently forward. An intensity that must be credited to
director and co-writer Kimberly Peirce. The full review can be read

"John Adams" premiere

Yesterday, Mamie has attended the premire of her upcoming film "Stop Loss".
Also, two new clips have been added to the Multimedia section, a clip from the film and
an interview with Mamie on the red carpet, talking about her
role, her co-stars and her upcoming Broadway debut in "Les Liaisons Dangereuses". |
Meryl and Mamie in German Vogue

The April issue of the German VOGUE features a photospread of famous
mothers and children, including a stunning picture of Meryl and Mamie, taken by Brigitte
Lacombe last year while promoting "Evening". Here's a transcript of the small article below

I on the other side worry about everything." Eventually there has been
the first familiar collaboration. In "Evening", they play the same character at different
ages. And of course, Meryl Streep is "enormously happy" about this. But she knows, "one day,
she'll start to worry. Just wait until she has kids."

"John Adams" premieres today on HBO

The epic seven-part HBO Films miniseries event about the legendary former president "John
Adams" will premiere today with its first part on HBO, followed by a documentary on the
making of the film. All airdates can be found

The miniseries has received some amazing reviews, being called a "masterpiece" by Reuters,
and the Washington Post wrote, "John Adams can safely be labeled a victory for all the
talents who put it together - an entertainment unmistakably relevant in its evocation of
a tumultuous era not entirely unlike our own, and a great moment for a medium that is

Mamie Gummer talks "Stop Loss"

While the buzz for "Stop Loss" and its theatrical release on March 28 is slowly starting,
the official website has been updated with lots of new content, including more cast &
crew information and Mamie's biography. Head over for some new videos, wallpapers and
pictures. Then, the extensive production notes on the film feature many quotes by Mamie
on the making of the film and how she worked on her character. All parts can be read
below.
Mamie Gummer auditioned for the movie a year before cameras rolled, and the part of Jeanie appealed to her in particular. Her character was not featured in every scene but instead of returning home during her downtime, Gummer elected to remain in Texas.
“Kimberly Peirce really knows how to talk to actors, to communicate in a way so that you instantly get it. She doesn’t even have to say very much – she’s been living with these characters for so long and is so passionate about the work, she knows exactly how to get to the truth of their story and how to bring us there too,” adds Mamie Gummer.
This quality was especially helpful because, as Gummer points out, the fraught dynamics of Tommy and Jeanie’s relationship are never overtly stated but rather revealed through the story.
“In these big group scenes, Joe and I had to do a lot of improvising to create a relationship without having written dialogue. Occasionally, Kim would just whisper something in my ear, a small note that would be so right on. It helped that Joe was a great actor and a great guy,” Gummer says.
“I just loved, loved the story, this script, this girl, this part. It was so far removed from my little New York City self, to come down to Texas and live in this world. I came across and interview with an Army wife talking about adjusting to him being back and the challenges that she faced. That was very helpful. Jeanie grew up in Texas, Michele is her best friend, they all went to high school together. The guys came back to Brazos after basic training and it seems like it must have been a whirlwind relationship and courtship, they got married right out of high school. Living in Texas, spending time here, watching these girls was really something,” she says.

Yesterday, Mamie has attended the premire of her upcoming mini-series "John Adams".
Here's some additional information on the premiere by the Boston Globe: Historian David
McCullough and series producer Tom Hanks are in Washington, D.C., tonight for a screening
at the Capitol of HBO's seven-part miniseries based on McCullough's Pulitzer Prize-winning
biography of John Adams. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Congressman Bill Delahunt, whose
district includes the Adams homestead in Quincy, are the featured speakers. McCullough
and Hanks will then attend a Friday gala at the Boston Public Library. Paul Giamatti,
who plays the second president in the miniseries, which starts March 16, was at the New
York premiere Monday, along with McCullough, Hanks, actors Josh Charles, Justin Theroux,
David Morse, Eva Amurri, and Mamie Gummer. |
