Dropped Projects

Throughout the years of her career, Marcia has been mentioned to be involved in projects that either never made it to the screen, were cancelled or replaced. Below is a list on known projects that she has been associated with at some point (in chronical order).

Lincoln (2009)

The story of the sixteenth President of the United States who guided the North to victory during the Civil War is about to be adapted to be big screen by Steven Spielberg. During early production, Marcia was announced to star as Lincoln's wife Mary Todd while Lincoln is played by Liam Neeson. However, in late 2007, Sally Field was reported to have taken over the role. The film is not yet filmed.

Drift (2006)

In 2006, Marcia was announced to star in a pilot for ABC. Marcia Gay Harden will star in the ABC pilot "Drift", according to Variety. She'll play a therapist who treats a New York detective suffering from a major emotional trauma that leaves him with insomnia and little long-term memory. While continuing to do his job, he hallucinates that his deceased daughter is with him at the crime scenes he's investigating. Harden stars in the project opposite Chazz Palminteri. Should it wind up on air, Drift would represent Harden's first regular series role since "The Education of Max Bickford". To my knowledge, the pilot has never been broadcast.

Hate (2005)

Another pilot for a possible show starring Marcia was announced in 2005 by Showtime: Marcia Gay Harden stars in the new Showtime pilot Hate from executive producers Paris Barclay and James DeMonaco. American Beauty producers Dan Jinks and Bruce Cohen will also be involved in some producing capacity. Production is scheduled to begin this month with Barclay directing from a script by Barclay and DeMonaco. Hate centers on the hate crimes unit of the NYPD. Harden plays Chief Jackie Mantello who must find a balance between her demanding job and an emotionally troubled son. The pilot, to my knowledge, was broadcast in September 2007 with no further resonance.

In 2004, Cyan Pictures announced that Marcia Gay Harden and Chris Cooper were currently working on "Miller", they premise to complete the film in mid-2004. Cooper was said to be seen in the title-given role of Miller, Harden will play the role of Celia. Cyan Pictures' website has since replaced Chris Cooper by John C. Reilly and states the film as pre-production.
