Hamptons Magazine: The Harden Way

The fall issue of Hamptons Magazine features Marcia on their cover as well as a very interesting article, accompanied by her stunning photos, inside. You can get an excerpt of both the article and the pictures at their Official Website

On the other end of the phone line, a breathless Marcia Gay Harden is ticking off her early-morning adventures, straight from the annals of motherhood. So far today she’s woken up to a foot in her face (courtesy of her three-year-old son, Hudson); snuggled with Hudson’s twin sister, Julitta; made breakfast; taken nine-year-old Eulala to school; driven her visiting mother to the bank; picked up the nanny; fed a gaggle of ducks; dropped the kids and the nanny off and passed the car (with an empty tank) to the assistant; walked the dog; then called in for this interview. And it’s not even noon. Such is the life of the Oscar-winning actress who’s got not one, not two, but five movies coming out over the next few months-including an emotionally charged independent film about mental illness, Canvas, which made its debut at last year’s Hamptons International Film Festival. This year Harden returns to our nabe to promote another family drama being presented at the festival, Rails & Ties, costarring Kevin Bacon, in which she plays a woman dealing with terminal cancer.

Marcia has attended the American Cinematheque's gala event honoring Julia Roberts to pay tribute to her colleage from "Mona Lisa Smile". "Hope she's dumb." Pictures from the event can be found in the Image Library.

"Canvas" New York premiere and critical praise
Posted: 2007-10-12

Marcia has attended the New York premiere for "Canvas" on October 09, 2007, accompanied by her co-stars John Pantoliano and Devon Gearhart. Check the Image Library for all pictures from the premiere.

The New York Times has the film reviewed and praised Marcia's performance: "Because Mary Marino, the afflicted mother, is portrayed by the gifted Marcia Gay Harden, “Canvas” never threatens to become the kind of quasi-horror film that movies about the mentally ill tend to be. Cast in a role that would tempt many actresses to indulge in award-seeking histrionics, Ms. Harden underplays Mary’s recurrent symptoms until the last moment. When the voices that periodically torment her return, her ears prick up, and her eyes dart, as expectancy mingles with fear that rapidly escalates to panic. Even when she erupts, you sense the human being in pain huddled inside the uncontrollably raving creature". The full article can be read here.

Between film sets, life on Gossamer Lake

Article courtesy The New York Times: Marcia Gay Harden and Thaddaeus Scheel still marvel at their luck in stumbling upon the property in the fall of 1997, one year after they had met in Maine on the set of “The Spitfire Grill,” where he was a prop man and she played a waitress. Married and living in Los Angeles then, they knew they would eventually make their way back to New York, where Ms. Harden began her acting career. The full article can be read here.

To commemorate the week, Liberty Mutual announces today the availability of a free, entertaining fire safety video, "Be Fire Smart," for families to view together and facilitate open discussion about fire safety in their home.
