2008 Sundance Film Festival

As reported below, Marcia was among this year's jury members at the Sundance Film Festival.
Courtney Hunt's film "Frozen River", about two women who help smuggle illegal people into
the United States, took the top prize, winning the grand jury prize for dramatic features
at the show. The audience award was won by The Wackness, a comedy from Jonathan Levine. In
the World Cinema Competition, the grand jury prize for dramatic feature went to Jens
Jonsson's King of Ping Pong. The audience award went to Amin Matalqa's Captain Abu Raed.
I've added picture from various events, such as the jury's press conference, to the Image Library.
The following tidbit on the jury's panel comes from
CinemaBlend: Among the jury members
present at the conference were documentary film makers Amir Bar-Lev and Leena Pasanen,
IFP (Independent Feature Project) Executive Director, Michelle Byrd, directors Jan
Schuette and Mary Harron, and actors Diego Luna, Marcia Gay Harden and Sandra Oh.
When the discussion got around to what some of the jurors anticipate in terms of the
films they’ll be judging, Marcia Gay Harden (who is as gorgeous in person as she is on
screen) was excited at the prospect of getting to really analyze and evaluate each film
individually. She said, “I know that we’re going to see things that are raw and great. I
know that [I’m] going to see things that are different and may not appeal to my taste but
I get to go ‘Huh, how do all the elements fit together? How did the craft - the
cinematography, the contributions of the actors - How did it fit together in order to
make what would be a wonderful independent film?’”
