Tony Awards continued coverage
Posted: 2009-06-10

Tons of additional pictures from the Tony Awards have been added to the Image Library. Also, you can now watch a video transcript of Marcia's win and acceptance speech as well as two more interviews from the red carpet and the press conference. Below the previews is Marcia's speech.

Thank you. What a glorious season to be on Broadway. You know, I tell my kids every day that bad behavior and hysteria and tantrums and tears will get them nowhere... (pointing to her Tony) I don't quite know how to explain this. I've seen the beautiful performances of Janet [McTeer] and Harriet [Walter]. For our viewing audience, they were mixed up - Harriet has beautiful brown hair and Janet beautiful blonde hair. And Jane Fonda, and I have the joy of performing every night with my friend, the divine Hope [Davis]. So I'm all the more humbled and honored and thrilled to have this prestigious award. Thank you Tony voters! As many of you know the play is about marital strives, so I should probably start by thanking my husband Thaddeus Scheel for preparing me so well for the role (laughter). Many dress rehearsals. Thank you Thaddeus. How do I feel? I feel like I've been given custody of a baby that has four parents - four sick, deranged parents. But nonetheless I do share this with James Gandolfini who brings out the worst in me every night. Thank you James. And Jeff Daniels, the swot, and the gorgeous Hope Davis, thank you. It's a pleasure fighting with you guys every night. This play springs from the brilliant mind of Yasmina Reza and was translated by Chris Hampton, thank you, but Matthew Warchus - without your sublime direction we would have sent this play out the pasture long ago with all the milking for laughs. So thank you for your love. To my family, I love you. And mom, thank you for helping me lug the suitcase up so many flights, when I first came to New York. Love you all.

Tony Awards tonight, Marcia mentioned as frontrunner
Posted: 2009-06-07

The Tony Awards will be handed out tonight, and for most critics and media outlets, Marcia is a clear frontrunner for the Best Actress category, such as the New York Daily News who wrote that "Oscar winner Harden will expand her trophy case for her finely calibrated, deliciously demonstrative take on a Brooklyn wife and mother whose nice veneer hides something far nastier. If "33 Variations" had been a better play, Jane Fonda, who played a dying music scholar, would be stiffer competition." The Los Angeles Times writes that "I agree with most other pundits that Marcia Gay Harden will win for her over-the-top performance in "God of Carnage." The show has received a total six nominations, in the Best Play category, for Best Director as well as for its stars, James Gandolfini, Jeff Daniels, Hope Davis and Marcia Gay Harden. The Tonys will be broadcast live tonight at 8/7 c on CBS.

The Tony nominated cast of Yasmina Reza's "God of Carnage" will extend their contracts through November 15.
